Je hebt dan met twee elementen te maken, namelijk de lichtbron en de licht vormer. De lichtbron kan van alles zijn, de zon, een kaars, een tl-buis, Ome Henks kale kop, een flitser of daglichtlamp. Het is het punt waar je licht vandaan komt en hoe intens die licht is. De lichtvormer is de gene die bepaalt hoe die licht verspreid wordt. Het kan bijvoorbeeld je licht bundelen, reflecteren, kleuren of volledig verspreiden. In veel opzichten is je licht vormer vaak bijna belangrijker dan je lichtbron, aangezien het een enorme invloed heeft op de sfeer en uitstraling in je foto. Als je verder nadenkt dan is Ome Henks kale kop eigenlijk een lichtvormer, aangezien het niet de oorsprong van het licht is, maar slechts het licht reflecteert. <br><br>Hieronder is er een overzicht van de meest voorkomende lichtvormers die voor een lichtbron worden gezet en hun effecten. de lichtvormers zijn allemaal op de zelfde positie geplaatst.
